2. Potential and Export Markets for Vietnamese Coconuts

Exports to China: China has become a key market for Vietnam’s coconut exports. Since the market opened in August 2023, Vietnamese fresh coconuts have been officially authorized for export to China. This has created a huge opportunity for domestic coconut enterprises, with forecasts predicting that exports to China could reach USD 250 million by the end of 2024.

International Markets: In addition to China, Vietnamese coconut products are also exported to over 100 countries and territories, including demanding markets such as the U.S., the EU, Japan, and South Korea. Vietnamese coconut products are highly valued for their quality, especially the Thai coconut variety, known for its sweet and refreshing taste.

3. Recent Trends in Vietnamese Coconut Exports

Impressive Growth: In 2023, Vietnam’s fresh coconut exports achieved favorable results. According to the Vietnam Coconut Association, the export turnover of the coconut industry exceeded USD 1 billion, with 30,000 tons of fresh coconuts and 320,000 tons of processed coconut products exported. By the end of 2024, exports of coconuts and processed products are expected to reach around USD 1.2 billion, an increase of 15-20% compared to 2023.

Ben Tre Province – The Coconut Export Hub: Ben Tre, known as the “coconut capital” of Vietnam, plays a vital role in supplying raw materials for the coconut export industry. In the first nine months of 2024, Ben Tre province exported 22 million coconuts to markets such as the U.S., Japan, the EU, and South Korea, with an export value of USD 500 million.

Vietnamese coconut products are highly appreciated for their good quality, especially the Siamese coconut variety, with its sweet and refreshing taste.

4. Future Prospects of Vietnam’s Coconut Export Industry

With substantial potential from the Chinese market and the EU, Vietnam’s coconut export industry is expected to continue strong growth in the coming years. However, to sustain this growth, enterprises in the sector need to improve technology, maintain product quality, meet strict food safety and quarantine standards, and enhance international marketing strategies.

The Vietnamese coconut export industry is poised for strong development, with major opportunities in international markets, especially China. However, the industry also faces challenges regarding technology, quality, and competition from other countries. Building a strong brand and sustainable development will be key to positioning Vietnamese coconuts on the global export map.
